| The Gloria M. Silverio Foundation is established as a 501(c) 3, non-profit organization. Its mission is "to save the lives of newborns, in danger of abandonment, and to help preserve the health and future of their mothers". The tragedy of child abandonment knows no age, race, ethnicity or social-economic status. Therefore, "A Safe Haven for Newborns" was created to serve all mothers, and their newborn children, throughout Miami-Dade County and all of Florida. The Gloria M. Silverio Foundation is headquartered in Miami Dade County and is the sole organization in Florida addressing this issue. It still operates with volunteers including the CEO, Board of Directors, advisory Board and Help Line Staff. Our ultimate goal is to eliminate infant abandonment in the State of Florida. We are addressing the issue of infant abandonment in Florida thru prevention, education and community involvement. We are saving lives. As of this date 53 babies have been saved in Florida, eight of these babies in Miami-Dade County. But there is still so much more to do.
