| Alliance for Families with Deaf Children (AFDC) works to ensure every deaf and hard of hearing child succeeds in life by providing their families with resources, services, and support. After participating in our programs, many families are able to read with their deaf child in a language he or she understands, most deaf children improve their language and literacy skills and all of the parents learn American Sign Language in order to help their child in school and life. Children are more confident and parents are more equipped to provide the best home environment for their deaf child. Our programs include: home visits, mentoring, parent workshops, language and literacy instruction, parent support groups, family learning socials, American Sign Language instruction, early intervention services, an early childhood class, and resource and referral services. | AFDC is in desperate need of a 15-passenger van. Although many of our services are done in the families’ homes, we have parent workshops, parent support groups, family learning activities, and the early childhood class that families cannot participate in because they do not have transportation. 78% of the families we serve are low-income families. Many of these families only have one car or no car at all. If AFDC owned a van, we could ensure that these families receive ALL the services we offer, not just the services in their home. Other Items
