For most of us the holidays are a time of joy celebrated with family and friends, but for thousands in our community, it is a time of struggle and disappointment. You can play an important role in bringing holiday joy to those less fortunate in our community through Neighbors 4 Neighbors' Adopt-A-Family 4 The Holidays program.
For the past 18 years Neighbors 4 Neighbors has worked to match needy families with caring businesses, organizations, and individuals through our Adopt-A-Family 4 The Holidays Program. These "adopters" provide gifts, decorations, food, and, most importantly, friendship. Unlike many holiday programs, an adopter through our program has the option of meeting the family or remaining anonymous. Neighbors 4 Neighbors also serves families who are not matched with an adopter. Many companies, schools, and other organizations have organized toy drives and collected monetary donations to help us serve these families.
Most adopters tell us in a follow-up survey, that it is the best holiday experience they have ever had. Families have reported that it brings the true meaning of the holiday season home. Companies report a sense of strong team building and employee participation. Many adopters remain in contact with their "adopted family" for years to come.
Non-profit social service agencies, ministries, and organizations that serve families in need refer adoptees. Each referring agency signs an agreement stating that a home visit has been made and their caseworkers will act as the liaisons between the family and the adopter. Adopters receive a profile of the family along with contact information for the referring agency.
We hope that you will consider joining the more than 100,000 people who have participated since 1992. In a time when so many have so little, it is good to live in a community with caring businesses and individuals who are willing to ease the burden.
